100th Year Celebration of the City of Stanton

This year, the City of Stanton proudly celebrates 100 years of official incorporation. The town was officially incorporated in June of 1926, marking an important milestone in the community’s history. However, the story of Stanton and the surrounding Martin County began decades earlier.

In 1882, six German Carmelite friars arrived in the area with the vision of establishing a colony. They named the settlement Marienfeld, a German word meaning “Field of Mary.” The friars built what became known as the first Catholic Church in West Texas, laying the foundation for a small but determined community. From those early beginnings, the settlement gradually grew and evolved into the town we know today as Stanton—a community rich in heritage, resilience, and tradition.
